My sister Ann told me about the cake channel and together we decided on a cake that we could make for my granddaughter’s birthday. We chose to make two square cakes, one slightly smaller than the other, and then used another square cake to create a purse that resembled a very expensive handbag that she had wanted for a couple of years and which we know she was getting from an aunt. It took me a while to get the symbols correct. She loved the cake but almost fainted when she opened that gift. I practiced making that emblem for weeks before her birthday. It actually turned out looking pretty good. She knew the purse on the cake wasn’t real because she said no sane person would put a purse that expensive on a cake. We had to do a lot of experimenting to get the right icing colors to get even close to the actual colors of the purse. At first she didn’t want us to cut the cake but when we did she ate two pieces. The cake was chocolate with a mocha flavored filling. We even attached a serial number to the plastic handle that we used for Anna Marie’s special birthday cake. Several people attending the party offered to pay for a similar cake but we didn’t have the time or energy to make another cake and we didn’t have a license to make food for sale.
