There are dozens of web sites that offer really interesting ideas for cake designs for just about any event you can imagine.
Some of these sites require a registration or subscription which may not be worth it for someone who only bakes rarely.
But if you enjoy baking and do a lot of it you can get some really great ideas and learn about new techniques and tools and maybe at the same time help and encourage others who want to learn more.
Many years ago my mom made a cake in a coffee can to make a “firecracker” cake for my cousin’s 4th of July birthday. She decorated the cake with red icing and used a licorice stick for a fuse.
If you check out sites such as Flickr you will find some unique cake designs. Believe it or not you can get some great ideas just by browsing cake pans. Many of which are shaped like cars, toys, baby items, animals, cartoon characters, flowers, religious and holiday and patriotic symbols and even sports balls and field. My friend Ellen wanted to make a special cake to honor her husband Mike winning the golf tournament at his club.
We finally came up with a miniature 9 hole golf course design for his cake. He loved it. When he first saw it he asked “where is the golf cart”? He made sure to take pictures so he could show them around the office. He was really impressed. Ken joked that the grass (coconut) was too high and he had lost a ball.
If you do a search for cake decorating you can find literally hundreds of different ideas. Or you may see a design that you can adapt to create a truly special cake for your event. You can adapt a child’s cake idea for an adult situation and make terrific unique cakes that everyone will admire and enjoy immensely.
