Cake Decorating - Make a Train!

by Julie
(California)

I've been into baking for some time now, and have always been looking for ways to expand my creativity.

My sister totally out did herself last year for my nephews first birthday party. She made him a train cake - literally between 3-5 feet long. So of course I was all over her for the details on how she did it.

She used the small loaf pans and made I think five of six cakes (you can do as many as you want). She had each one on a separate serving dish, and frosted with dark blue frosting, and used the icing to form 'links' between each section.

For 'wheels' she used Oreo Cookies, and you can use graham crackers for the sides to form 'windows'. Get creative and let your imagine take hold. Use gummy bears for passengers and use green frosting on the bottom of the serving dish to mimic grass.

The possibilities are endless, and you can have the kids help out!

More for Train Theme Party
by: Anonymous

As I am searching around for ideas on cakes for my son's "Karate Kid" birthday party, I did come across some train-themed items. Since I stumbled across this posting, I thought I'd share!

Here is an adorable pewter train bank and sign: http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=bridesvillage&query=train&.autodone=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.bridesvillage.com%252Fnsearch.html

And here is a really cute train cup: http://www.birthdayexpress.com/Train-Cup/52094/PartyItemDetail.aspx. What kid wouldn't like one of these!
