Fun 1st Birthday Cake Design

I had been planning my son's first birthday cake from the day he was born.

It underwent several transformations before I decided on the finally design, and seemed to be growing just as quickly as the baby was.

Finally about a month before his first birthday I was able to sketch out my vision and only change it a bit during the actual decorating. My main idea was to have a tiered cake that I could just take apart and give the baby one whole tier to himself. I ended up with a 3 tier cake.

The bottom layer was rainbow chip filled with blueberry filling and iced with butter cream icing. Tier two was chocolate cake filled with strawberry filling and covered with white fondant and cutout fondant stars and number ones.

Tier 3 was a 3D teddy bear of white cake and iced with chocolate butter cream. The ideas came from looking at different web-sites and mashing a bunch of ideas together to make my own, unique design. I also attached fondant cutout stars and number 1s to flower spike to ''pop'' out of the cake.

The cake turned out just the way I wanted and was a huge hit with my family, friends and the baby loved making a mess out of his own little bear cake.
