Fun Ford Model A Cake Design

Get in and we'll go for a drive!
Can I sit in the rumble seat?
What an antique.
There is a lawyer that I work with at my office who has this exact car life size. One good days he brings it to the office.
Knowing that I make and decorate cakes on a regular basis, he came to me and asked if I would make a cake for his "Ford Model A" group that was having its 25th Anniversary.
Now I've made many cake designs throughout my many years but never one this detailed and, what I thought initially, difficult.
At first I was angry with myself for accepting the request but, that's what I do, say yes first then create later. I printed out pictures of Ford Model A cars and actually search the internet for a small one foot model car so I could replicate it.
I made a plain yellow cake, froze it and carved it to get the body. I made the wheels from fondant as well as the fenders. I frosted the cake with buttercream and poured green chocolate over the cake first.
I made the rumble seat out of chocolate. The wind shield and mirrors were made out of royal frosting. The night before my fenders kept falling off. I had to rig up tongue depressors to hold them up and stay on the sides of the cake.
I was extremely nervous the night before because it just seemed like it wasn't going to come together. When I brought the cake to work, and transferred it to the lawyer, he hugged me right in the middle of the parking garage.
The group loved it. Before I made this cake, the lawyer, who happens to be a big wig in the law firm I work for now looks up to me and thinks of me as the best cake decorator he has ever known. Before he barely knew I worked there.
