Just jump right in - My first ever (Wedding) Cake

My First Wedding Cake Picture

Friends of mine were getting married but really didn't have any budget left for a "real" wedding cake.

I volunteered to run to Costco to pick one up but then she said those words, "I would really love to have a real wedding cake"!!! So, I thought, how hard could it be, just whip one up.

We sat down and talked about what kind of cake for the main wedding and about a Groom's cake. For him, it was white cake, white frosting and smothered in coconut.

Pretty simple. However....after two weeks of searching every site possible and going absolutely bonkers, I finally came up with the following combination for the BIG ONE!!! I felt this would take care of her Chocolate fetish: Chocolate Butter Cake with chocolate buttercream icing between the layers, crumb coated in chocolate buttercream and then completely frosted in Chocolate Ganache then orange ribbon wrapped around the bottom of each tier and garnished in fresh purple pansies.

I can't even tell you all the fiascos I went through before it was done and all the things that I learned along the way. One thing I have learned is that I have a lot more to learn.

As for the bride, she couldn't believe her eyes and was beyond thankful for the gift of her wedding cake....making two 17 hour days in the kitchen totally worthwhile.
