Sprint Cup Trophy in Cake
After gaining a good bit of experience in the donut industry with Hotties Gourmet Donuts in Orlando for a few years, I started taking cake decorating classes here in Charlotte North Carolina that my wife ENCOURAGED ME TO DO.
Figuring that I would be the only guy in the course, I was correct. This group of ladies from Guyana to China taught me many tricks of the trade in the weeks of classes that I took. My instructor has some amazing talent as well. To my surprise, each of the courses were fun and I learned quite a few techniques around cake decorating. So it would be fair to say that I officially hijacked my wife’s hobby.
A few hundred dollars later after buying all of the tools, materials and what-not’s, a few of my co-workers at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Mooresville, NC caught wind of what I was doing and started placing orders one after the other. Many of the cakes you see here are requests that came from word of mouth. I recently received permission to create a birthday cake for NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson. (which has ALWAYS been my passion since I was 13 so excuse me while I jump off track a minute) One highlight stands above all others in the many opportunities I’ve been able to drive a stock car as well as attend the races.
Upon meeting the Legend AJ Foyt a couple years ago, I shared with him that I named my first born son after him. He replied in vintage AJ form: “Now, what the hell did you go and do that to the kid for?”
Hopefully, the NASCAR cake we presented will put us on the map once and for all.
