Pirate cakes are very popular for young boys’ birthday parties due to the recent blockbuster pirate movies.
You can choose a flavor from your collection of cake recipes and bake your cake in two nine inch round pans.
Using a child’s coloring book picture as a guide, begin decorating the cake.
My friend covered the top 1/3 of the cake with a piece of grape flavored fruit roll to create a headscarf and two smaller narrow pieces for the ties and created stripes using piped chocolate frosting. She also used a square of the fruit for an eye patch and thin strips for the ties.
Then she used icing to make the other eye, nose and mouth and more roll up to serve as a moustache.
The decorator bag and tips were the only supplies she needed. Scattered gold wrapped chocolate candy coins added just the perfect touch.
