Girly Girl Birthday Cake
My daughter was turning 5 and never had a birthday party with all the fixings.
She was very sure she wanted pink and black all the way with a purse and make up on her cake.
I had been making different family members cakes all year, but it was her turn and i knew it had to be special as turning 5 was also special.
So here's what I did,i made two 11x15 yellow butter cakes, and put them side by side and put a buttercream crumb frosting on them.
Then I made a 9 inch round cake and cut it in half, standing them side by side with cut side down and put a thin layer of frosting in the middle to hold them together.
I colored some fondant hot pink, rolled it out and covered the cut round cakes and smoothed it out.
Then all my add-ons like the zipper and trim and corners i made from fondant just cutting and hand shaping from the picture i had drew, then set them aside, took a wire hanger and cut 2 pieces and bent the bottom in so it would hold in the cake, putting some tape on it,i stood the shaped wire on the counter to make sure it had a slight lean in and would measure up and was the right size for the purse,i added all my pieces to the purse then added my handles so that they would rest on one another for support.
I then took pink Wilton pearl dust and put some in a cup with a dab of water, and karo and mixed it then brushed the entire purse to give it a shine and glitter effect, which actually made it look real.
The make up,nail polish and lipstick i also hand sculpted and did the pearl dust on.I made 24 mini lip sticks, and 12 mini purses for the edges all the way around the cake, the mini purse is a triangle with the top folded down, and a Wilton candy pearl bought at wal mart in the wedding section.
I made a double batch of buttercream, took out about 4 cups and dyed it black, the rest was hot pink,i star tipped the trim and added a candy pearl to every other star. The necklace's are real for a token to keep from her cake......NOTE........I WROTE THE MESSAGE FIRST THEN ADDED THE TRINKETS....didn't wanna work around the objects, its best that way and looks better to put your message then all of your objects.......ok almost done,i then went and added dots all over then slightly touched them with my finger tip to push em down to appear as a polka dot.......there you have it,all done pretty in pink.
