Retail Bakery

A retail bakery is one where cakes and other baked goods are sold to the general public at prices above wholesale.

Almost every town and city has at least one bakery. It may be a small "Mom and Pop" neighborhood bakery or part of a large chain of bakeries all over the state or city.

In privately owned stores the owner may well be the cake designer, baker and cake decorator all rolled into one.

In a larger operation there may be only one cake designer but each store may have its own decorator.

In some cases in really large chain stores the cakes may arrive already decorated with the only job left for the store personnel to do is write the greeting.

With advance notice you can get wedding cakes from almost any cakery. Many people prefer the personal attention of a small family run retail bakery.
