The way Grandma used decorate the cakes

by JC
(Surprise,AZ)

My godmother used to bake and decorates for a hobby then for a living. The easiest and cheapest way she taught me to decorate a cake cost about five dollars.

We would either make our cake batter from scratch or buy it, bake it, let it cool a good ten to twenty minutes.

Spread the frosting and let that cool and dry, take a piece of paper towel usually the ones with a embroidered look on it the place it over the cake on press very lightly over the papertowel transferring the towel imprint onto the cake frosting.

Then after letting the frosting dry we grab our favorite coloring book or specific picture or characture we are looking for, place it over the frosting and start tracing the picture with a clean sewing needle just leaving the tiniest trace patterns of the picture.

Then we add food coloring to our frosting or pre packaged colored frosting and fill in the picture. It was the most fun we had cooking and so much better coloring a cake than the book.
