A Husband's Cake Design

Husband's Cake Design Bridge Picture

Hi,

I showed a picture of this cake I made for my wife to someone who said to send a photo to you. I call it a bridge cake. It's supposed to symbolize our life together.

I made the bridge towers off of Brooklyn Bridge photos and made them out of styrofoam. The deck is balsa wood.

The water is made of devil's food frosted blue and white frosting.

The bridge decks connect to tow towers made of Rice Krispy Treats which I pressed into round salad molds. The lower ones are butterscotch and the top ones made of Cocoa Krispys.

My wife remembers her Grandpa liking lemon drops so I made a path of them spiraling up to the bridge with some little signs that say "Follow the Lemon Drop Road"

My towers have 3 signs that say "Plow Another Cornfield" an allusion to Field of Dreams, since I am sometimes a dreamer. I added some red and green M&Ms.

My son added the micro-machines and I put some little signs on them that allude to our family life: Pets, our son, Disneyland, God, etc. I put a flag on top of one tower with my name on it and one with my wife's name.

Next time (if there is one) I may make the bridge out of Rice Krispy Treats also, use more Devil's Food, and make another layer of Rice Krispy Treats. As it was, we had a lot of them to eat!

Next time I may make the whole thing edible.

Anyway, thought it might be worth sharing. I am now in my 50s and didn't cook much until recently. I do like to be creative and see cooking as an outlet for that.

A very unique cake. A lot of time and effort for the one you love. Carry on. You'll make many others very happy.
